Cruz Roja Faceblood – The Facebook-based blood bank that saved lives in Colombia
Blood is the root of all life. However, the value of this privilege is underestimated by most people. Owing to natural disasters, diseases, and other violent situations, healthy blood donors have become a necessity in the medical world. Despite the presence of non-profit organizations like the Red Cross, countless lives end because of the unavailability of requisite blood donors. To remedy this predicament, Cruz Roja Colombiana recently formed the largest virtual blood bank in the country. The initiative witnessed its early break when the Colombian organization received a phone call from Facebook on July 16, 2017. As a result of the discussion which took place on that day, thousands of people began entering their RH to the end of their name on Facebook. Eventually, the largest virtual blood bank in Colombia was given the name Cruz Roja Faceblood.
The digital advertisement for the campaign was materialized by Colombia-based marketing firm called Sancho BBDO. It showcased the developmental stages of the initiative, and also shared snippets of its positive results. One simple idea generated an impact that was soon acknowledged by the biggest media sources in the country. The most influential news channels covered the phenomenon of Faceblood and pushed the cause even further.
We feel that Cruz Roja Faceblood is a bright example of the collective greatness that communities are capable of achieving. Furthermore, the amalgamation of social media and healthcare opens doors for countless innovations in the future.
