The CROWN Act by Dove and the CROWN Coalition to Stop Hair Discrimination

The CROWN Act by Dove, Campaigns of the world

The CROWN Act campaign helped Dove and the CROWN Coalition end race-based hair discrimination nationwide.

Over the past few years, there have been numerous reports of hair discrimination in the workplace and in schools, including children being sent home because of their hair or job offers rescinded when people have not been willing to change their hair.

This is why Dove co-founded the CROWN Coalition in 2019 to advocate for the CROWN Act- legislation that eliminates race-based hair discrimination in the workplace and schools based on hair texture and protective styles such as braids, locs, twists, and bantu knots. The CROWN Act (and bills inspired by The CROWN Act) has been signed in 13 states and 28 municipalities as of June 2021.

The CROWN Coalition (Dove, National Urban League, Color Of Change, and Western Center on Law & Poverty) believes natural hairstyles should be celebrated, not discouraged. For this reason, they are committed to Creating a Respectful and Open World for Natural hair.
