Pedestal Project by Color of Change – Using an immersive AR experience to…

Pedestal Project by Color of Change – Using an immersive AR experience to replace symbols of hate with symbols of hope.

Contentious statues have been torn down all across America, leaving behind empty pedestals in their wake. It’s time to place new symbols in their stead. The Pedestal Project is born of the vision to repurpose these ill-conceived pedestals by using technology to help people choose the statues that should go upon them. Statues of people who have dedicated their lives to fighting for justice and equality. So that beacons of hope and progress can stand where symbols of hate, oppression, and inequality once stood. And that people everywhere can have an active voice in the movement for racial justice.

El Tiempo, one of the largest newspapers in the country, joins the month…

El Tiempo, one of the largest newspapers in the country, joins the month of the Struggle for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. An important moment to remember that without many characters of color, such as Michael Jordan, Muhammad Ali, or Jimi Hendrix, journalism would not have epic stories to tell and, therefore, great news.

In the wake of George Floyd’s murder and the civil unrest that spread…

In the wake of George Floyd’s murder and the civil unrest that spread across the US, BREAKFAST created Don’t Go Quiet. Each sweep of movement across the piece is tied to an individual post using the #BlackLivesMatter hashtag. The piece was unveiled with the following message from the Artists:

“This moment cannot go down as just another moment.

We felt the need to create something this week. To not allow ourselves to sit silent, as this is not acceptable for any of us ever again. On that very thought, we created an artwork titled “Don’t Go Quiet.” The upside-down flag symbolizes a country in distress. Each ripple through each stripe visualizes a person currently making their voice heard via the #blacklivesmatter hashtag. The piece is a real-time representation of how loud we’re collectively speaking.

May this flag never slow.
May it never go quiet.
We must keep using our voices, not just now, but from now on.”

About BREAKFAST
Founded in 2009, BREAKFAST is a new media artist collective focused on creating forward-looking software-and-hardware-driven artworks that connect viewers to far-away places through interactive experiences, and tell powerful stories about our rapidly-changing world. The studio’s practice employs a unique blend of computer science, mechanical engineering, and playful, emotionally-striking aesthetics to invite audiences to reflect on the relationship between the physical, the digital, the global, and the intimate—as well as the evolving relationships between human bodies and technological innovation in the Information Age.
