Every year at Cannes Lions, thousands of creative ideas compete for attention. But…

Every year at Cannes Lions, thousands of creative ideas compete for attention. But this year, the UAE Government Media Office used the global festival to speak directly to the people behind those ideas, especially the ones that never made it past the boardroom.

Created in partnership with IMPACT BBDO, the campaign transformed the UAE’s presence at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity into an open invitation for creatives, entrepreneurs, and innovators whose boldest concepts may have been rejected elsewhere. Rather than promoting a destination, the campaign promoted an environment where ambitious ideas could find the opportunity to become reality.

For the third consecutive year, the UAE established a strong presence across Cannes through a series of strategically placed out-of-home installations. Positioned around the Palais des Festivals and along the Croisette, the billboards addressed one of the advertising industry’s most familiar experiences: seeing promising ideas dismissed before they have the chance to be realised.

The campaign featured striking headlines including “The Ideas They Reject, We Build,” “The Idea Wasn’t Wrong. The Room Was,” and “Don’t Reduce the Idea. Change the Place.” Together, the messages reinforced the UAE’s long-running “Impossible is Possible” positioning while presenting the country as a place designed to support experimentation, innovation, and execution.

According to Khaled AlShehhi, Executive Director of Marketing and Communication at the UAE Government Media Office, the campaign drew inspiration from an experience shared by many creative professionals.

“Every creative professional understands what it feels like to have an idea questioned or dismissed,” he said. “Some concepts fail because they are not ready, but others simply arrive before the people evaluating them are prepared to embrace them. Our message is an invitation to those ideas that still deserve the opportunity to become reality.”

The campaign extended well beyond traditional billboards. Developed with IMPACT BBDO, it appeared across large-format outdoor advertising, digital screens, building wraps, and indoor media placements throughout the festival. Its visibility across key Cannes locations helped make the installations part of conversations taking place both inside and outside the official festival programme.

The campaign also generated significant engagement on social media, where delegates frequently photographed and shared the installations, helping the message reach audiences beyond Cannes itself.

Ali Rez, Regional Chief Creative Officer for IMPACT BBDO group of companies, said the work reflected the country’s broader ambition.

“The campaign represents a nation that believes bold thinking deserves bold action,” he said. “It’s an invitation to creators looking for a place where ambitious ideas have the opportunity to be realised.”

With this year’s Cannes presence, the UAE once again used one of the creative industry’s biggest stages to present itself not simply as a destination, but as a partner for ambitious thinkers. By focusing on ideas that never made it beyond the pitch room, the campaign challenged creatives to consider a different perspective: perhaps the idea was never the problem. Perhaps it was the place where it was presented.

Let’s Family at McD is the driving sentiment behind the latest brand campaign…

Let’s Family at McD is the driving sentiment behind the latest brand campaign from McDonald’s India (West & South). Launched by Westlife Foodworld, the company that owns and operates the quick-service restaurant chain in these regions, the campaign marks a major milestone as the brand gears up to celebrate 30 years of being part of everyday Indian life.

At its core, the initiative serves as a tribute to the countless moments the brand has shared with its customers over three decades. The central theme focuses on a simple truth: visiting the restaurant is less about the specific occasion and more about the genuine feeling of being together.

Redefining the Indian Family Dynamics

The campaign, conceptualized by McCann India 4, deliberately expands the traditional definition of family. Instead of limiting the concept to biological relationships, the creative strategy embraces the diverse social circles that define modern India. This includes friends, colleagues, communities, and chosen circles—essentially anyone who brings a sense of warmth and belonging.

A major highlight of the campaign is a vibrant brand anthem written by the renowned writer and lyricist Prasoon Joshi, Chairman of Omnicom Advertising India. The lyrics lean into culturally rooted, everyday interactions to show how ordinary meet-ups turn into meaningful connections. The narrative spans multiple generations, connecting people who grew up with the brand while welcoming a newer audience to create their own memories.

Capturing Real, Lived Experiences

The execution of the campaign draws heavily from a tapestry of relatable Indian scenarios. It positions the restaurants not just as dining destinations for planned outings, but as casual, everyday social spaces where people connect without formality.

The storytelling highlights familiar moments that resonate with the Indian consumer base, such as:

Sharing a truly Indian McAloo Tikki after school hours.

Late-night drives that end at a drive-thru window.

Post-exam celebrations and nervous first dates.

Bustling birthday parties and quick office lunch runs.

Leadership Perspectives on the Initiative

The leadership team behind the campaign emphasizes the importance of inclusivity and evolving cultural values in India.

Akshay Jatia, CEO of Westlife Foodworld, noted that the brand has grown alongside the country for 30 years. He explained that the campaign celebrates a more inclusive definition of family, reflecting how modern India comes together, while ensuring the brand remains a place where everyone feels they belong.

Prasoon Joshi shared insights into the nuance of Indian relationships, stating that family extends to the people who stand by us, share laughs, and accept us as we are. He noted that over three decades, the restaurant has naturally become a space where these bonds come alive.

Rahul Mathew, Chief Creative Officer at McCann India, added that while the brand has always hosted families, the definition of a family has shifted. He emphasized the desire to celebrate all types of families—including those built on shared passions or roles in our lives—and invite them to share space together.

Strategic Rollout and Execution

The campaign is built on a digital-first amplification strategy. Audiences will experience the narrative across digital platforms as well as through dedicated in-store experiences.

As the brand approaches its thirty-year mark in the country, the creative direction sets a clear tone for its next chapter. It builds on a long-standing legacy while staying closely aligned with how people live, interact, and build communities today.

Our Take on the Campaign

At Campaigns of the World, we appreciate work that taps into genuine human behavior rather than manufactured sentiment. This campaign succeeds because it mirrors a shift in how society views relationships. By moving away from rigid, traditional family tropes and acknowledging chosen families, like coworkers and friend groups, the brand stays modern without losing its nostalgia. This marks a sharp evolution from their functional McDonald’s print campaign work focused entirely on policy shifts.

The decision to anchor the creative work on a culturally rooted anthem by Prasoon Joshi grounds the strategy in authenticity. It highlights real, unpretentious moments that everyday consumers recognize, making the communication feel earned rather than forced.

The “Products with Purpose” campaign paid off that vision and value story. “We created a campaign that inherently differentiated DSM by going beyond the products they sell, delivering a human benefit story. In doing so, we simultaneously grouped the competition while creating a promise based on a larger, more important vision. Rather than the what, we focused on the why.”

Shutterstock, announced the launch of its new brand campaign and TV commercial, 100%…

Shutterstock, announced the launch of its new brand campaign and TV commercial, 100% Shutterstock. Created solely with Shutterstock content, the TV campaign showcases the creative platform’s ability to fuel and unleash the creative potential from inspiration to the finished product. The TVC, co-produced by Shutterstock Studios and the Ridley Scott Creative Group’s RSA Films, asks creatives,

“What can you create with 100% Shutterstock?”

The new campaign inspires creatives to imagine what they can create with Shutterstock’s assets across Editorial, 3D, Music, Studios and more

The demand for creative solutions and content has risen dramatically since the start of the pandemic, which has driven a need for more cost-efficient and flexible services to cater to remote working conditions and budget restrictions. Despite widespread access to tools and assets for creatives, there is a lack of a cohesive workflow, and therefore, creators are required to constantly jump between resources. 100% Shutterstock enables creators to overcome this challenge by starting and ending their entire process on one platform while keeping full flexibility on the creative concept. The campaign aims to expand people’s breadth and perception of Shutterstock’s entire offering, showcasing the company’s shift in positioning from its inception as a stock image house to an intelligent, creative platform.

“There is no better way to tell your clients what you can do than by showing them. Our new commercial demonstrates the limitless creative possibilities you can achieve with 100% Shutterstock,” said Rion Swartz, VP of Brand Marketing at Shutterstock. “Shutterstock is redefining what creativity means and how content creation happens. 100% Shutterstock is an important moment for the brand as we prove ourselves to be a cutting-edge creative partner for individuals and businesses of all sizes. We aim to expand the perception of what creators can do with our amazing catalog of assets and highlight our services that can turn your ideas into achievements. Our commercial is about celebrating all the resources available on one platform — from Editorial and custom content through our Studios offering, to video, music, and 3D rendering, that are, of course, 100% Shutterstock.”

Aimed at all creators, from individuals to global enterprises, the campaign inspires people to think big. The TVC was co-produced by Shutterstock Studios, an end-to-end custom creative service launched in November 2020 that provides:

Global production services.

Data-driven content strategy.

Brand storytelling and amplification for today’s most influential brands and agencies.

“Following a fantastic year for Shutterstock Studios, having produced TVCs, branded entertainment, social and digital content for some of the world’s biggest brands, media companies, and agencies, it was an incredibly creative and inspiring experience to produce our own Shutterstock campaign,” said Aiden Darné, Head of Global Production at Shutterstock Studios. “To be given the keys to our expansive library of assets and produce a TV spot made entirely from Shutterstock content was one of those rare opportunities to combine a great creative brief with innovative technology that made perfect sense. XR is a game-changer for filmmakers, and I think that so far, it hasn’t been used that much for commercial content. Creating our Shutterstock world wouldn’t have been possible without that type of technology. Or at least, it wouldn’t have been nearly as effective.”

“We leveraged visuals from every area of the Shutterstock business for this campaign, and it was a compelling reminder of just how versatile and far-reaching our offering is for our customers globally.”

Undoubtedly the months of pandemic lockdown have been harsh on all of us. But it has been especially brutal for working moms. They have had to juggle endless workplace demands alongside managing an unequal load of housework, childcare, and remote schooling. As a result, four times more women than men dropped out of the workforce. To highlight this concern, Women Empowered Global launched this film The Mom Penalty on International Women’s Day to address the elephant in the room.

About Women Empowered Global

Visionworks & Leo Burnett Chicago teams up with actor Karan Soni to help audiences See the Difference regarding the eye care industry.

Visionworks has launched a new brand campaign, See the Difference, introducing audiences to a comedic cast of villainous eye care executives intent on making the industry as complex as possible — helping show audiences that eye care really doesn’t have to be that difficult.

Visionworks’ new brand direction embraces an honest and relatable tone, promising simplicity and transparency in the eye care experience — a welcome change in an otherwise opaque and confusing industry. ‘See the Difference’ began in June and full campaign work debuted on July 8, running across TV, online video, social, print and radio.

“Visionworks is positioning itself for a new phase of growth, establishing our brand as the obvious choice for complete eye care,” said Pete Bridgman, chief executive officer, Visionworks. “We believe that consumers should be able to see the difference in our products, our service, and the eye care experience. Our new brand campaign celebrates that clarity.”

Actor Karan Soni serves as the new face and voice for the campaign, representing the eye care ambassador you can trust among the other out-of-touch executives. This is Leo Burnett’s first creative campaign for Visionworks since being named agency of record in November 2018.

Leo Burnett will also be creating a new visual identity for the Visionworks brand in tandem with new creative work, all featuring the brand’s Love What You See Guarantee: Love How You Look, Love How You See, and a 100-day guarantee to fix your glasses if you don’t love them for any reason.

“Leo Burnett and Visionworks are both in the business of creating human value,” said Britt Nolan, co-president and chief creative officer, Leo Burnett Chicago. “We’re excited to partner with Visionworks on category-defining creative work, harnessing behavioral insights and reimagining this new era of consumer eye care.”

Kathmandu is a brand with its roots in New Zealand that sells travel…

Kathmandu is a brand with its roots in New Zealand that sells travel and outdoor adventure apparel. The brand’s reach extends to New Zealand, the United States, Germany, Australia, and the United Kingdom. The core ideology adopted by Kathmandu reinforces the notion that traveling is the ultimate learning experience. In Kathmandu’s first global campaign called ‘World Ready’, the in-house creatives build the idea through real stories of travelers and adventure enthusiasts.

The production company behind the campaign, Man in your Head, presents breathtaking visuals coupled with some deep travel insights in the trailer for the multi-layered campaign. The intimate vibe of the campaign is further strengthened by the individual stories of impeccable travelers who don Kathmandu gear while narrating their ordeals with mother nature.

Two such stories are detailed below:-

Kathmandu World Ready Trailer

1. World Ready with Caroline Bellamy
Caroline Bellamy is a kiwi-based artist who has a fascination with landscapes. In her own words, drawing picturesque views takes her through her traveling experiences a second time. She describes her art as an effort to capture the essence of the places she has visited rather than obsessing over details. Her work is characterized by an honest sense of rawness that traps its viewers in varied textures and the overall mood of her paintings.

In the micro-documentary of her travels, she emphases that she does not have any preconceived notion of what her travels must look like. Instead, she goes where the adventure takes her and brings back figments of her imagination that eventually take form in her art.

2. World Ready with Mark and Hana
The journey of Mark and Hana through the entire length of the Americas embodies the spirit of Kathmandu: personal education through travel. As documented in the world ready series, Mark and Hana travel all of the Americas on their bicycles. Mark is a photographer who aims to share his experiences with the world in the form of visual stories that give people a taste of what lies beyond familiar streets and daily routines. According to mark, traveling on a bike is the ultimate travel experience as it strengthens your body as well as your mind. The duo’s travels from the top of Alaska to the tip of Argentina have broadened their horizons and inculcated an increased sense of open-mindedness in them. The two traveler says that empathy is one of the major emotions that their journey has taught them.

In a nutshell, World Ready is a campaign that crystallizes the core ideology of Kathmandu. Other than the right mindset and the required fitness, gear is also a major part of any successful outdoor expedition. Simply put, Kathmandu claims that it makes you World Ready if you have the stomach for it!

Powerful content which makes a lasting impression is the perfect recipe for a successful ad. As the worldwide partner for the Olympic Games, Alibaba did something similar.

Alibaba has today become one of the most known names in the e-commerce and retailing market. If you run a small business and you have not heard of Alibaba.com yet, now might be a good time to get yourself acquainted with them. The company has emerged as a unique combination of eBay, Amazon, and PayPal, allowing global customers to shop online at one of their two powerful websites.

Their campaign titled ‘The Greatness of Small’ talks about how the company is not your average e-retailer but about how it is changing the dynamics by uplifting and giving a platform to various small businesses. From there, it expands the horizon to include how one person can impact lives, how one country can achieve greatness and how one dream can affect billions. With a strong voiceover, it narrates the story to show sports as a medium of its involvement with ‘small’ businesses by taking insights from ice hockey, boxers and even marathon runners.

Alibaba Olympic Ad: To the Greatness of Small

This Olympic campaign marks the beginning of corporate ads released by Alibaba outside China. The ads curated by BBDO China will air in select countries including the US, the UK and Japan and will be seen on all major digital platforms namely YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn. Chief Marketing Officer Chris Tung confirmed in an interview that it is the first time that Alibaba has launched a global branding campaign which isn’t focused on a single business unit but rather is a representation of the parent company as a whole.

At the first glance, the ad resembles a Nike spot with strong narration and powerful sports visuals. But slowly it fits into a unique mould and you realize they are beautifully explaining the company’s objective of pushing small and medium-sized businesses. The script is easy to relate to and the background score is victorious and enthralling. In all, the spot does justice to the campaign and leaves you feeling good about the work Alibaba is doing all over the world.

Social media is abuzz with Mahindra’s magnum opus’ You Live Young, You Live Free’ brand campaign. Featuring a brilliant showcase of all of Mahindra Automotive’s utility vehicles, this ad campaign by Interface Communications underscores the position Mahindra holds in the utility vehicles segment.

The new anthem is said to have started a trend in making adventure lovers fall in love with jeeps all over again. Shot on the rigged terrains of Leh-Ladakh and the wetlands of Kerala, this campaign to highlight the toughness of Mahindra’s range of utility vehicles is ably complemented by well-synchronized rock music throughout its two minute duration.

It features people of all ages driving different Mahindra utility vehicles across difficult terrains, and ends with the tagline “Live Young, Live Free”, highlighting the fact that age is just a number when it comes to living life to the fullest!

Vivek Nayer, senior vice-president, marketing, auto division, Mahindra & Mahindra, says that utility cars are lifestyle enablers and quips: “The new film depicts the portfolio of Mahindra SUV/UVs in action and underpins our DNA of tough and rugged vehicles that enable an aspirational lifestyle.” He adds: “Our cars give you the freedom to travel anywhere you want to. They give you liberation from the usual routine life.”
Not to be left out, Robby Mathew, national creative director of Interface Communications speaks up about the agency’s part in the film: “We brought out the scale of Mahindra through this ad film, which is the undisputed leader in this category.”

A shorter segment of the film is all set to be out soon and many digital initiatives are in the pipeline as part of the campaign.
