Regardless of the pool of brilliance created by the invention of smartphones, the…

Regardless of the pool of brilliance created by the invention of smartphones, the critics of these futuristic devices have voiced their hatred quite firmly over the years. Furthermore, according to a considerable chunk of the society, smartphones and students are two entities that should stay as away from each other as possible. Many countries have even proposed legal measures to ban the use of smartphones in classrooms. However, Switzerland is breaking the norm by encouraging the usage of mobile devices in educational interventions. This unique initiative has been brought to life in association with Samsung and PH Zug. An interactive application called A Touch of History creates a unique virtual learning environment for the students. By morphing a smartphone’s interface to stimulate historical learning, A Touch of History helps its users immerse themselves in the potential digital lives of notable historical figures. Furthermore, the gamification elements of the app make it fun and engaging.

The advertisement campaign for the app was created by a Zurich-based marketing agency called Jung von Matt/Limmat. The showcase video takes the viewers through a narrative filled with testaments by various participants of the campaign. As observed in real-time, the learning experience provided by A Touch of History even propelled students to complete their homework on time. Given the depth of the immersive learning experience, students found using the app similar to walking a few miles in the shoes of the likes of Albert Einstein, Frida Kahlo, Marco Polo, Leon Tolstoy, and countless other influential figures of the past. As stated in the video promo for the initiative, the app has become an official part of the curriculum and is being expanded to make room for more subjects. Needless to say, the number of possibilities with this innovation is nearly limitless.

A Touch of History serves as one of the biggest advocates of the positive impact of technological advancement. Undoubtedly, it is one of this year’s premier advancements in the education sector.
