The 54-Second Watch campaign by Fondation Emergence. Every second, thousands of victims worldwide…

The 54-Second Watch campaign by Fondation Emergence. Every second, thousands of victims worldwide are claimed by homophobia and transphobia. Due to intolerance, the life span of LGBTQ+ persons is reduced.

Fondation Emergence created a symbolic object, a 54-second watch, to highlight this injustice. 6 seconds less for every colour of the LGBTQ+ flag. The watch was created as part of an awareness campaign for May 17th, the International Day against homophobia and transphobia. For more, visit: http://www.54-secondwatch.com

May 17th is not yet officially recognized by the UN; thus we’re launching a petition to make it happen. In addition to wearing the watch, you can show your support by signing the petition: https://chng.it/rSfX7hqJ4k

The 54-second watch is an initiative of the Fondation Émergence, a non-profit organization fighting against homophobia and transphobia. For more, visit: https://www.fondationemergence.org/

I Am – Starbucks advertising campaign, A Starbucks store transformed into a notary…

I Am – Starbucks advertising campaign, A Starbucks store transformed into a notary office so that transgender people could get their names legally changed.

In Brazil, trans people often suffer prejudice when they don’t have their new names on official documents. The process for legally changing names is expensive and bureaucratic, and the registry offices where it happens are intimidating environments for this community.

At Starbucks, anyone who orders a drink at the counter has their name respected and written on the cup without question.
So, VMLY&R decided to invite trans people to have their names legally changed in a place where they are always welcome. The agency transformed a local Starbucks into a registry office, and participants could leave the store with official documents in their new names – free of charge.

The result was a seven-times increase in daily legal name changes for the city of São Paulo.

Corteva Agriscience launched “The Heart of the Farm,” a new documentary series that…

Corteva Agriscience launched “The Heart of the Farm,” a new documentary series that shares the untold stories of the people who grow our food. The multi-part series challenges perceptions of the farming community by amplifying farmers’ diverse experiences and voices across America.

The first installment of the series, “Growing with Pride,” debuts during Pride month and spotlights Leon Etchepare, a 4th generation farmer at Emerald Farms based in Orland, CA. In the episode, Leon opens up about coming out to his parents, the life he is building with his long-time partner, Andrew Pentecost, and his experiences as a gay man in an industry not often considered a place where LGBTQ culture thrives.

Emily Clark, Associate Creative Director at Ogilvy and director of the film, said: “As marketers, we have tremendous power to affect whose stories are told. As a queer director, this is a very meaningful project for me to bring people who haven’t had the opportunity to share their stories to the forefront. Andrew and Leon represent an industry moving in the right direction — towards a more inclusive and supportive space.”

“The Heart of the Farm” will continue with upcoming episodes featuring further stories of historically underrepresented farmers.

The Pause, by Procter & Gamble on Pride month P&G’s roots in LGBTQ+…

The Pause, by Procter & Gamble on Pride month

P&G’s roots in LGBTQ+ inclusion and advocacy are built on the example set by our people. Individuals who used their voice to fight intolerance, tackle bias and put themselves at risk for equal treatment and protection.

The journey has not been easy. Nor have we always been right.

Progress — initiated by a few brave employees often in the face of strong resistance — helped to change our culture, shape the company attitude and strengthened our commitment to the LGBTQ+ community. We’re using our voice to drive acceptance, inclusion and a love for humanity.

“The Pause” is calling out the struggle of hesitation that the LGBTQ+ community experiences every day before deciding how much of themselves to reveal to those around them. The film encourages people outside of the community to notice, reflect and realise how their reactions can make a difference. Because #Pride is much more than a single event or a moment, it’s a movement to advance equality and serve as a catalyst to fight bias. The film allows everyone to learn more and to join them in supporting LGBTQ+ organisations at PG.com/LGBTQvisibility

Pantene is ‘Going home for the holidays’ to inspire acceptance and celebrate the…

Pantene is ‘Going home for the holidays’ to inspire acceptance and celebrate the LGBTQ+ Community this holiday season – #IMBeautifulLGBTQ+

137 million Americans will travel home this holiday season. But, 44% of LGBTQ+ people feel they can’t come home as their true selves, fearing their identity, including hair, makeup and wardrobe, won’t be accepted. While every LGBTQ+ person has their own unique story about going home for the holidays, everyone is seeking the same thing – to be surrounded by people who love and accept them. To help amplify their stories of transformation, Pantene, GLAAD and the Trans Chorus of Los Angeles have created “Going Home for the Holidays” video series to raise awareness of the tensions and challenges LGBTQ+ Community members can face. Pantene wants to celebrate & encourage individuals to be proud of who they are – whenever, wherever, and however, they come home.

“Inclusion is at the heart of Pantene’s mission to celebrate the beauty of all transformations and all people,” said Ilaria Resta, Vice President, North America Hair Care, Procter & Gamble. “Hearing these LGBTQ individuals speak about the trials and triumphs of going home for the holidays – as well as their irrepressible desire to be their true selves – will inspire others in the community and remind us all what true beauty is about.”

Pantene is dedicated to helping everyone everywhere see and experience transformation in their lives in big and small ways. “Going Home for the Holidays” builds upon the brand’s “Don’t Hate Me Because I’m Beautiful” Campaign, launched during Pride Month 2019. The “Going Home for the Holidays” video vignettes feature powerful stories of four members of the Trans Chorus of Los Angeles. One video in particular features Crystal as she shares how she decides to change her appearance in terms of clothing, makeup and hair with family members when she goes home. “To be able to express myself openly, and genuinely – it’s freeing,” she said. “I could finally look in the mirror and say, ‘that’s me’.”

In addition to the “Going Home for the Holidays” series of videos, Pantene has pledged to make a $100,000 donation to Family Equality, which envisions a world in which every LGBTQ+ person has the right and the opportunity to form and sustain a loving family. “Family Equality is excited and proud to join Pantene’s inclusive embrace of all family members during the holidays. Families of origin, families that are formed, and chosen families all have a role to play in the beautiful patchwork of love and acceptance that makes up our LGBTQ+ community,” said The Reverend Stan J Sloan, CEO of Family Equality.

The brand is proud to continue their partnership with GLAAD, which accelerates the acceptance of LGBTQ+ people by sharing stories and working through all forms of media. uplifts members of the LGBTQ+ community by celebrating inclusion, representation and freedom of expression. “Pantene is setting the standard for authentic inclusion of LGBTQ people and stories among brands that transcend industries,” said GLAAD President and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis. “LGBTQ stories need to be told by brands outside of Pride month and Pantene is demonstrating a real commitment to LGBTQ storytelling with this moving holiday video. Especially around the holidays when too many LGBTQ people feel isolated, it’s so important to remind community members who celebrate with families – chosen or otherwise – that they are beautiful.”

About GLAAD
GLAAD rewrites the script for LGBTQ acceptance. As a dynamic media force, GLAAD tackles tough issues to shape the narrative and provoke dialogue that leads to cultural change. GLAAD protects all that has been accomplished and creates a world where everyone can live the life they love. For more information, please visit www.glaad.org.

On Saturday June 29th, public service provider, Dublin Bus, celebrates the people who…

On Saturday June 29th, public service provider, Dublin Bus, celebrates the people who made Pride in Dublin possible, the older LGBTQ+ generations, with a new activation, The Long Road to Pride. Working with creative agency ROTHCO, part of Accenture Interactive, Dublin Bus decided to bring together people, young and old, from the LGBTQ+ community to create a more inclusive Pride.

#TheLongRoadToPride #DBPride #50years #RainbowRevolution #Pride

Pride is known as one of the most inclusive events of the year. However, Dublin Bus and ROTHCO noticed that one demographic was notably absent from the celebrations: the older LGBTQ+ generations. In 2018, fewer than 1% of Pride attendees in Ireland were aged over 65. Despite their crucial role in carving out LGBTQ+ rights in Ireland today, they are often forgotten about and disconnected from their community. With the decline of gay bars, there are very few intergenerational spaces left for them to socialise with the rest of the community.

They are also some of the most vulnerable members of society: older LGBTQ+ people are 50% more likely to be living alone compared to heterosexual people their age (be it that they’re single, never had children or are estranged from family), and are five times more likely to have mental health issues. So, although they’ve never needed the LGBTQ+ community more, they can’t find a way in, even at Pride.

This year, Dublin Bus and ROTHCO wanted to encourage LGBTQ+ people over the age of 65 to come along on Pride, a celebration they helped lay the foundations to. They paired older LGBTQ+ people with younger members of the LGBTQ+ community to attend the party together. The pairs all have something in common; either coming from the same place, sharing similar experiences, or occupations, so their friendship begins with a common ground.

Mary Ryan, Marketing and Information Manager at Dublin Bus comments: “Dublin Bus is one of the last places where people of all ages, backgrounds and orientations come together, but at Pride one group is not on board. Dublin Bus is a space for everyone and it’s important people really feel that. Inclusion is so important to us and when the team in ROTHCO brought this issue to us, we knew it was something we wanted to support. When it comes to Pride no one should be left behind.”

John McMahon, Creative Director, comments: “Pride has become something of a ‘brandwagon’ that anyone and everyone feels they can jump aboard. But we didn’t want to be part of the feeding frenzy. And even though Dublin Bus have historically supported Pride (notably with last year’s ‘Proud Dads’ activation), we agreed with them that we should only get involved if we could find a way to make ourselves useful to the LBGTQ community itself. And I think we found that way. An entire generation of older Irish LGBTQ people missed the Pride party because Ireland was an intolerant place. Given that the bus is one of the few inter-generational places we have in our society, it felt appropriate to right that wrong by bringing some of those people ‘into the fold’ of Pride using the bus itself. I’m really proud of what we’ve done. Usually in advertising, we’re giving a voice to the noisiest people around! This was one time we got a chance to give a voice to some people who are quite under-represented, both in the context of Pride and in Irish life in general.”

About ROTHCO
Over the past 23 years ROTHCO has risen to become a leading creative agency in Ireland. But they have always been driven by a global ambition. To this end they have produced campaigns that have run in 23 markets, for brands such as Heineken, Aon, Unilever, AIB, Hailo/MyTaxi, Rory McIlroy Inc., Kodak and Tesco.

Their work has been globally recognised with awards from every major global awards show and in 2018 they took home 117 international awards, including the coveted Cannes Lions Grand Prix in the Creative Data category.

In 2018 they spoke for the fourth time at The Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. This followed an acquisition deal with Accenture Interactive earlier in the year, giving their ambitions an exciting new edge.

In the film, Love Calls Back, LGBTQ people tell their stories of how…

In the film, Love Calls Back, LGBTQ people tell their stories of how their families either didn’t understand their orientations or how they reacted poorly to learning their brothers, sisters, sons and daughters were LGBTQ. The touching stories show very real calls of those family members who reacted badly called their estranged family and had heart-to-heart talks with them, proving that love can ‘call back’ and help heal old wounds.

According to Sean Bryan, Co-CCO of McCann New York, finding the right subjects was an important part of the process. “We started by casting for parents who were haunted by the way they handled their child’s coming out,” he says. From there, they approached the children and once all were game, the filming was able to proceed.

As an everyday viewer, it’s tear-jerking to watch, and for the team on the shoot, “They used up a lot of Kleenex,” Bryan says.

It’s never too late for love to call back. Verizon and PFLAG are committed to connecting and reconnecting all families. Find support for LGBTQ families at pflag.org

Pantene Launches Don’t Hate Me Because I’m #BeautifuLGBTQ+ To Redefine What ‘Beautiful’ Looks…

Pantene Launches Don’t Hate Me Because I’m #BeautifuLGBTQ+ To Redefine What ‘Beautiful’ Looks Like Today
Created in partnership with GLAAD, Pantene’s new campaign is a revival of the brand’s iconic 1986 “Don’t Hate Me Because I’m Beautiful” advertisement

Don’t Hate Me Because I’m BeautifuLGBTQ+ | #BeautifuLGBTQ+

As a brand once known for a particular kind of “beautiful hair,” Pantene is tackling conventional stereotypes with “Don’t Hate Me Because I’m BeautifuLGBTQ,” a new message that’s part of their recently launched “Power To Transform” campaign. Created in partnership with GLAAD, the campaign takes the brand’s ubiquitous line from its famous 1986 advertisement to redefine what ‘beautiful’ looks like in today’s world by featuring a range of people within the LGBTQ+ community and their own unique stories of transformation.

“For many in the community, hair plays a pivotal role in their “transformation moment,” said Ilaira Resta, Vice President, North America Hair Care, Procter & Gamble. “In fact, from our research we found that 60 percent of LGBTQ+ persons change their hair when they have a life or identity change. So, whether that means getting a major chop or growing out your locks to defy societal norms, or embracing hair that bends the gender binary entirely – Hair is an impactful visual cue of transformation, and this new campaign from Pantene aims to show the beauty of all transformations and of all people.”

Each person featured represents their own transformation and unique sense of self-expression, with three stories being featured in separate supporting campaign videos. One video shares the story of Pooya, a transgender woman from Iran who was once jailed for having hair that was considered too long. “I want to be there for people in a way that I didn’t experience when I was younger, and let them know that there is nothing wrong with them,” Pooya states in the video after joining the initiative in hopes that her story would enable others to see their place in the world and envision the transformations they are capable of.

In addition to being WorldPride sponsors, the launch of “Don’t Hate Me Because I’m BeautifuLGBTQ+” also comes with the announcement of Pantene’s partnership with GLAAD, which will continue to uplift members of the LGBTQ+ community by celebrating inclusion, representation and freedom of expression. This furthered commitment follows recent global Pantene campaigns in the Philippines and the U.K. which celebrate and showcase transgender beauty and the stories of that community.

“Pantene has raised the bar for authentic inclusion by shining the spotlight on a diverse group of LGBTQ people in this powerful new campaign,” said GLAAD President and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis. “Hearing these LGBTQ individuals speak about their identities as well as their drive to be their true selves will empower other LGBTQ people and remind us all what true beauty is all about.”

In April, Pantene launched its new “Power to Transform” campaign which recognizes, celebrates and gives visibility to those who transform their lives and the world around them every single day. As a result, the brand has committed to telling stories of transformation that defy bias, celebrate personal expression and show a more inclusive world.

Pantene wants every head of hair held high with Pride, and encourages the LGBTQ+ community and its allies to express their authentic selves and share their own transformations to show the world all they are capable of and just what “beautiful” looks like. Join in the conversation by using #BeautifuLGBTQ, and learn more about what Pantene is doing at www.pantene.com/en-us/pride.

The life expectancy of transgender people in Brazil is age 35 due to…

The life expectancy of transgender people in Brazil is age 35 due to violence and discrimination. This fact is highlighted in the new film #NoLoveShouldDieYoung | Thirty-Five developed by Y&R Brazil (part of VMLY&R Group) for Athosgls, an LGBT news portal. The short film, produced by FAUNA studio, features real trans couple Guto and Onika. This statistic is underscored by the film’s soundtrack, a cover of Alphaville’s 80’s hit song ‘Forever Young’ by Brazilian vocalist Liniker (a black trans woman). Coincidently, this year marks the 35th anniversary of the song’s release.

To reflect the life of trans people and the dangers they live with each day, the production team included trans screenwriter Luh Maza, and researcher Uni Corrêa, who worked with Maza to develop the film’s plot.

The film will be shown at various events for International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia (May 17) and at events during LGBT Pride month.

On April 12, 2019, history created itself when attendees at the Belvedere castle in Vienna witnessed the world’s first AI marriage. The Wedding of Siri & Alexa ceremony professed the idea that love is a concept that transcends gender. In this campaign supporting LGBTQ+ rights, the Vienna Tourist Board partnered with Serviceplan-Munich to give birth to a ceremonial exchange of vows between the two Artificial Intelligence.

The guests at the wedding included LGBTQ+ celebrities from Austria who attended the ceremony a month ahead of the EuroPride event that is to be held in June. After the officiation of the union between Siri and Alexa, the newlywed couple even made its way through Vienna in a horse-drawn carriage.

The emotional reaction of the guests present in the audience signified how moving a love story beyond definitions can be. Those who couldn’t witness the wedding in person can download the Pride Skill developed by plan.Net Innovation Studio from the Amazon Alexa Skill store. The function will enable users to not only recreate the wedding vows shared by Siri and Alexa, but it will also give them information about the festivities lined up for the EuroPride event.

We feel that this campaign makes tactful use of two rival technologies to put across a meaningful message about love. We wish Siri and Alexa a happy married life!

With nearly one in five adolescents bullied across the nation, today, STOMP Out…

With nearly one in five adolescents bullied across the nation, today, STOMP Out Bullying announces a first-of-its-kind AI platform, Emma, designed to help reduce bullying. Developed with consultation from Dr. Jeff Gardere, one of the most widely sought-after experts in the field of mental health, and an Associate Professor of Behavioral Medicine at the Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine in NYC, Emma is a technically advanced education tool programed to process thousands of negative social media posts and simulate the effects of bullying on a teenager’s brain.

“Having supported more than five million students through STOMP Out Bullying, we know that although cyberbullying can have a dramatic and long-term impact on mental health, early interventions can help,” said Ross Ellis, CEO of STOMP Out Bullying. “We created Emma as an innovative tool to help teens, educators and parents visualize the impact of cyberbullying on the adolescent brain, so they can take action and drive positive change.”

For the first time, scientists have proven the impact of peer victimization on adolescent brain development through a new study from E.B. Quinlan et all. Medical Research Council, King’s College London, London, UK. Data shows the experience of chronic bullying during adolescence may induce psychopathology-relevant deviations from normative brain development. Furthermore, the study found that peer victimization positively associates with anxiety symptoms indirectly, via these changes in the brain.

“Through science, we see that kids really do suffer emotionally, not just physically from bullying,” said Dr. Jeff Gardere. “I believe that Emma could be an incredible teaching tool because if we can help teens understand what happens when bullying occurs, we can empower them to do better.”

“Understanding STOMP Out Bullying’s goal to help create a positive shift in culture for teens everywhere, we wanted to take on the technical challenge of constructing Emma,” said Mauricio Ruiz, Creative Technology Director of Grey New York. “We created Emma to act as a technical persona of adolescents, to become a tool that kids everywhere can relate to, learn from and feel empowered by.”

Created based on clinical studies, Emma will process thousands of cyberbullying posts, understanding natural language and intent in each of the comments. She then associates the level of toxicity based on a scale ranging (-20, 20), with toxic comments sparking a systemic effect in Emma’s architecture based on real scientific data from the new study. Emma’s “vitals” (connection of computer functions to human functions) include:

CPU: Correlates to the putamen, a part of the brain that affects motor functions, reward sensitivity and higher cognitive processing like executive learning, working memory, and sequence learning.
Memory: Correlates to the caudate, a part of the brain that contributes to reward sensitivity, motivation, conditioning, attention, and emotional processing.
Temperature: Correlates to the anxiety levels in the human brain associated with decreased caudate and putamen volumes.
Data Volume: The amount of content to which the brain is exposed.

Every second, Emma’s system uses machine learning to identify and internalize thousands of bullying

LGBTQ+ pride is a steadily emerging phenomenon that gives the people of the community a chance to accept themselves as they are, and spread messages of love and prosperity. Every year, in the month of June, millions of people come to New York to participate in the NYC Pride March. This year, L’Oréal USA organized a campaign called Signs of Pride.

The promo for the campaign was designed by an agency named Kettle. It involved the collaboration of 4 L’Oréal USA employees with 4 artists from the LGBTQ+ community. The creative minds worked in synergy to design meaningful signs for the Pride March. The whole initiative gave the participating members of the LGBTQ+ community a chance to express themselves through art.

Shauna, our National Sales Director at Atelier Cologne, and artist Adam JK found common ground right away. Watch them bond over what matters most.

L’Oréal Paris Brand Manager, Kris, and Philadelphia-based illustrator Loveis Wise joined forces to bring their own journeys to life through #SignsofPride.

For Billy, our Assistant Marketing Manager at Matrix, and illustrator Mohammed, beauty has no labels. Stay tuned to see their inspiring collaboration in #SignsOfPride.

We feel that such campaigns bridge the divide between different social groups, and inculcate notions of acceptance and harmony in the society. L’Oréal’s #SignsOfPride is one of those campaigns that the world needs more of!
