A hydration break lasts only a few minutes. The plastic bottle used during…

A hydration break lasts only a few minutes. The plastic bottle used during it can remain in the environment for much longer. La Pausa campaign by Colectivo Cabos and Granidea uses this simple contrast to turn FIFA World Cup 2026 hydration breaks into real-time environmental advertising.

Instead of creating a separate football setting for the campaign, La Pausa uses real match images captured during live broadcasts. Each hydration break becomes an opportunity to place an anti-plastic message directly into the football moment.

La Pausa Finds a Print Campaign Inside the Match

Hydration breaks are a familiar part of football. Players stop, take a drink and wait for play to resume. For La Pausa, that short interruption becomes the central media opportunity.

The campaign takes these real moments and transforms them into print advertising. Players remain at the centre of the images, while the campaign message draws attention to what happens to the plastic bottle after the water has been consumed.

Its central thought is simple:

“The water is consumed. The bottle is not.”

The message does not need a long explanation. The contrast between the short life of the water and the much longer life of the plastic creates the environmental argument.

Real-Time Advertising Using Real World Cup Moments

La Pausa is particularly interesting as a real-time advertising idea because the campaign is built around moments that cannot be completely planned in advance.

The images come from live FIFA World Cup 2026 broadcasts. The players, positions and match situations are determined by what is happening on the pitch.

That gives the print campaign an immediate connection with the tournament. Rather than using generic football photography, La Pausa places its environmental message inside moments that football audiences are already watching.

It is a simple way of connecting print advertising with the speed and relevance normally associated with digital campaigns.

Making Single-Use Plastic Part of the Picture

The environmental issue in La Pausa is familiar: single-use plastic.

Water may be consumed within minutes, but the plastic bottle does not disappear when the match continues. By placing this contrast next to images of players drinking water, the campaign makes the packaging part of the story.

That is where the campaign’s visual approach becomes useful. The football image immediately establishes the context, while the message changes how the viewer looks at the bottle.

There is no need for a dramatic environmental scene. A normal hydration break is enough.

World Cup Advertising With an Environmental Message

The FIFA World Cup 2026 gives La Pausa an unusually relevant setting for its environmental advertising message.

Hydration breaks naturally create moments when water consumption is visible. The campaign uses those moments to talk about the waste associated with the packaging.

The idea can also travel beyond the stadium. Because the campaign is built from match images, the executions can be seen wherever audiences are following the tournament, including homes, bars and other viewing spaces.

That gives the campaign a useful connection between the live event and the everyday behaviour it is asking people to notice.

Why La Pausa Works as Print Advertising

Many environmental campaigns rely on statistics, dramatic imagery or long explanations. La Pausa takes a more direct route.

The match image gets attention. The hydration break explains why the player is drinking. The message then introduces the environmental concern.

The campaign also benefits from repetition. Hydration breaks are recurring moments within football, so the same communication idea can work across different matches and players without changing its basic message.

For Colectivo Cabos and Granidea, the World Cup becomes the setting, the hydration break becomes the media opportunity and the bottle becomes the subject.

That makes La Pausa a print campaign that is closely tied to its media moment, while keeping the environmental message easy to understand.

Let’s do better to #BeatPlasticPollution this World Environment Day 2023 World Environment Day…

Let’s do better to #BeatPlasticPollution this World Environment Day 2023

World Environment Day is a significant occasion celebrated annually on June 5th. As we step into World Environment Day 2023, the call to action is louder than ever, urging everyone to come together and tackle one of the most pressing environmental issues of our time: plastic pollution. Under the theme of “#BeatPlasticPollution,” this year’s World Environment Day aims to raise awareness about the detrimental effects of plastic and inspire collective action to combat this global crisis. In this article, we will delve into the detrimental effects of plastic pollution and explore actionable steps we can take to be part of the solution.

The Magnitude of Plastic Pollution

Plastic pollution has reached alarming proportions, adversely impacting our ecosystems, wildlife, and human health. Every year, millions of tons of plastic waste end up in our oceans, rivers, and landfills. Plastic debris not only disrupts the delicate balance of marine life but also poses a significant threat to terrestrial ecosystems.

The detrimental effects of plastic pollution are far-reaching. Sea turtles, birds, and marine mammals often mistake plastic fragments for food, leading to injury, suffocation, or death. Microplastics, small particles that result from the breakdown of larger plastics, have infiltrated the food chain, potentially causing harm to humans through consumption of contaminated seafood and water.

Actionable Steps to Beat Plastic Pollution:

Embrace Reusable Alternatives

Reduce your reliance on single-use plastics by adopting reusable alternatives. Carry a reusable water bottle, bring your own shopping bags, and opt for reusable food containers instead of disposable ones. By making these simple switches, we can significantly reduce the amount of plastic waste generated.

Say No to Plastic Straws and Cutlery

Plastic straws and cutlery are major contributors to plastic pollution. Take a stand against these items by using eco-friendly alternatives like metal or bamboo straws and biodegradable cutlery. Small changes can make a big difference.

Participate in Clean-up Campaigns

Join local initiatives or organize clean-up campaigns in your community. By removing plastic waste from beaches, parks, and other public spaces, we prevent it from reaching our waterways and protect our environment.

Support Plastic Recycling

Proper waste management is crucial in combating plastic pollution. Educate yourself about local recycling programs and ensure you recycle plastic products appropriately. By supporting recycling initiatives, we contribute to the circular economy and reduce the demand for new plastic production.

Spread Awareness

Use the power of social media, blogs, or community events to raise awareness about plastic pollution.

Saint Martin, a coral wonder, a tourist attraction, choked by plastic waste. The biodiversity and marine life are under threat which in turn affects the livelihood of the natives.

Bidyanondo opened the Plastic Exchange Store to provide residents with essential goods in exchange for plastic.

Awareness of the project was raised all over the island. The motivated natives then collected the plastic, brought it to the store, and exchanged it for an equivalent amount of goods. Bidyanondo then transported the plastic and sold it to plastic recycle businessmen. They used the funds to buy more goods for the store, creating a truly sustainable solution.

As a result of the powerful idea, there has been a behavioral shift and the beach is significantly cleaner. Plastic is now valued as an alternate currency on the island.

Hindustan Unilever launches film ‘Bin Boy’ – To showcase a simple act of…

Hindustan Unilever launches film ‘Bin Boy’ – To showcase a simple act of separating dry, wet and hazardous waste can help create a cleaner and healthier world for our children.

#HumEkKachraZero #BinBoy

Every day in India, thousands of tons of waste end up in landfills, rivers, and oceans. While there are positive steps being taken towards developing waste management solutions, a lot more needs to be done when it comes to collective citizen action. Hindustan Unilever Ltd (HUL) has launched a campaign that looks to inspire individuals to segregate household waste at source and ensure that waste stays out of the environment and in the circular economy.

The ‘Bin Boy’ campaign through its child protagonist ‘Appu,’ aims to drive behaviour change among citizens and urge them to segregate waste at homes and residential societies. Through an engaging narrative and thought-provoking dialogue, the campaign draws attention to the seriousness of mixed waste disposal and the need for immediate action.

Speaking on the campaign Sanjiv Mehta, Chairman and Managing Director, Hindustan Unilever Ltd says, “The need for urgent action on the issue of waste segregation has never been greater. At HUL, we recognize our role in this context and have been working with leading agencies in the space and the Government to drive what is a simple, positive action that each of us could do. We work towards empowering communities to reach the goal of Sanitation and a zero-waste circular economy. Children are the strongest advocates of change in society and are also the strongest drivers. We believe that our latest campaign with a child protagonist will inspire and unite citizens to create a waste-free, greener tomorrow”

The ocean plastic problem goes deep. Eurythenes plasticus is a newly discovered species,…

The ocean plastic problem goes deep. Eurythenes plasticus is a newly discovered species, the first in history that has been named after the ocean plastic that contaminates it. Although it lives far away and at great depths, microplastics were already detected in the body of the amphipod when it was discovered.

“Germans are some of the best sorters of rubbish in the world, but well under 30% of our plastic is recycled. Rather than dealing with our own trash, Germany is the third biggest exporter of plastic waste (behind the USA and Japan) to countries in South East Asia. Because of less stringent regulations in these countries, this trash often ends up at landfill where it’s blown around in the wind, into rivers and ultimately into our oceans. Once in the ocean, the plastic gradually breaks down into microplastics and slowly falls to the sea floor where it can take up to 400 years to fully decompose. Ocean plastic is an important ongoing topic for the WWF. We were given the challenge to find a new spin on a problem that has been desensitized over time that could generate widespread attention and action with a very modest budget.”

Creative Idea
“When you find a new species you get to give it a name. To make an environmental statement against ocean plastic, we named a new deep-sea species after the plastic that was found inside its body – Eurythenes plasticus. This new species has been entered into the permanent taxonomic record as living proof that we’re impacting parts of the world we are still discovering. Following the publication of the scientific manuscript and the worldwide press that resulted, we launched a multi-channel campaign collecting petition signatures calling for a legally binding UN agreement to put an end to marine plastic pollution.”

Strategy
“We needed to find a way to get the attention of a desensitized audience to further highlight the ocean plastic problem for our client the WWF. Through research, we found out that deep-sea species were being found with plastic contamination already in their bodies. One such study showed that 72% of the sampled deep-sea crustaceans contained plastic contamination. This insight created an interesting strategic opportunity to show the problem goes far deeper than previously imagined. Furthermore, if we could collaborate with deep-sea scientists to find a new species that had also been contaminated by plastic, we could name it after that very contamination and use the new species as a vehicle for environmental activism. We knew if we could use science to influence the taxonomic record of our planet, we could create a far more convincing and lasting educational impact on our audience than a conventional ad campaign.”

UNESCO: #QuestionsThatMatter | World Press Freedom Day “The sovereignty of the people and…

UNESCO: #QuestionsThatMatter | World Press Freedom Day

“The sovereignty of the people and the freedom of the press are two entirely correlative things,” Alexis de Tocqueville. Some crises can act as revelators. What was striking during the Covid-19 crisis was this deep dependence on public goods such as water, transit, health infrastructure, and equipment… Goods are so common that we forget how vital they are. Information is one of those fundamental assets. The role of journalists in a society is to inform, investigate and denounce. More than just a right, press freedom is the sine qua non-condition for any democracy.

If people do not know what is happening in their society, if their leaders if economic, moral, or religious powers act under the veil of secrecy, no one can act. Through 5 symptomatic questions of today’s world and by confronting readers directly with the effects of censorship, UNESCO asks us about the individual and collective consequences of a lack of press freedom. Without this possibility to ask questions: those that annoy, those that disturb, we are all deprived of information, and by the same action.

To silence a journalist is to silence all of us.

Cheil Central America has created a striking campaign for Greenpeace Chile – ‘The…

Cheil Central America has created a striking campaign for Greenpeace Chile – ‘The Nature of Plastic’ – in which five of Chile’s iconic locations are re-imagined in plastic for print, outdoor and social to express the impact of pollution, even in protected environments, and highlight the need for behavioural change.

The creative team selected five locations: Easter Island, the Atacama desert, El Plomo mountain, the El Morado glacier; and the Araucania forest. These locations were chosen to illustrate clearly that our plastic use has penetrated the very fabric of nature even in such breathtaking scenes.

Chile is the largest Latin American country in the production of plastic waste. Each year, out of 990,000 tonnes, only 8% is recycled.
Plastic dispersed in the environment survives over time and, through micro fragmentation, gets everywhere. In Chile, as in the rest of the world, what is not recycled penetrates the ecosystem’s natural fabric and reaches protected environments and World Heritage sites.

Embarrassing plastic bags is a campaign by the East-west market of Vancouver, Canada,…

Embarrassing plastic bags is a campaign by the East-west market of Vancouver, Canada, which is famous for its organic and local products to help reduce the use of single-use plastic bags around the world. The astonishing figures show that over one million single-use plastic bags are used worldwide every minute. The single-use plastic bags make for a large segment of toxic plastic waste that is produced. These single-use plastic bags are often not treated properly and hence end up polluting the environment affecting the lives of humans and flora and fauna.

The idea is to print the single-use plastic bags with logos or images of the other embarrassing stores like adult-film stores, colon care clinics, ointment stores, adult toys stores, etc. The impact of this simple campaign has been huge. It is that 96% of the customers have already started bringing in reusable bags. The campaign has received global media coverage and 200 million hits worldwide with simple investment and zero advertising.

Plastic pollution has been posing a threat to the climate of the whole…

Plastic pollution has been posing a threat to the climate of the whole world. The danger is not only limited to the environment but also life. Plastics cause harm to our lives, the lives of aquatic animals, and the animals and organisms in the wild. In partnership with Son De Miel, Isobar started a new campaign ‘Last Straw’, where they can use the waste straws to help in the growth of the most important species of bees for pollination, “Apis Mellifera.”

Through extensive research, Isobar found that artificial honeycombs are made from the same material as plastic straws. It was also found out that the size of each honeycomb cell is the same as the commonly used straws, and so the researchers figured out a way to combine waste sterilized straws into an artificial beehive. The impressive results show that 300 straws can support the life of 4000 new bees. The artificial beehives have been sent to apiaries all over the world. Isobar also created a campaign to motivate people to make their next straw, ‘ The last straw.’

Waste management and recycling have been a great aid in reversing climate change. People are trying to create more new and advanced ways to recycle waste in something useful. This campaign is an excellent example of how innovation and research can come together to create wonder.

CalenDARE Against Plastic: Everything is getting cancelled, but our fight for a plastic-free…

CalenDARE Against Plastic: Everything is getting cancelled, but our fight for a plastic-free future is still on.

Every year, sometime in November, agencies across Armenia receive very similar briefs – design year-end corporate calendars for different brands. Zuck&Berg’s brief from ACBA-Credit Agricole Bank, one of the country’s leading banks, was no exception. But while paper calendars used to be relatively valuable at the beginning of the decade, by now, they have become obsolete. They challenged ourselves to create a calendar that would tackle the very problem that paper calendars represent – waste of resources and danger to nature. Instead of designing another ordinary calendar, they created the calendar Against Plastic – a calendar composed of 4 eco-bags made with recycled paper. 12 000 CalenDAREs were given out to bank clients across Armenia, and the response was overwhelmingly positive. Despite the low awareness about the issue of plastic bags and plastic pollution in the country, people quickly took to social media to discuss the innovative calendar and the problem it raises.

There is a monopoly on recycling in Spain. The system does not contemplate incentives and deems it to be an obligation of citizens. For the first time in our country, a brand rewarded user who recycled plastic containers and raised awareness in the process. In a public car park located in the tourist destination of Sanxenxo, Pontevedra (Spain), we installed a unique device where parking time was paid for by recycling plastic containers. During some beautiful beach-going days, users could park their cars right next to the beach in a pay and display car park, but with the bonus that they could pay for their parking time by recycling plastic containers. Hyundai, a brand that works to make its vehicles more environmentally friendly, created Eco parking. This action in a public space raised awareness about caring for and respecting our beaches and oceans. In a matter of days, in a single-car park, we managed to recycle the amount of plastic waste produced by 25 people annually. In a country with 7,268 km of coastline, imagine what we could achieve.

Notpla is literally Not Plastic. But, it serves the same purpose as plastic, except that it is edible, so it’s kinda genius. Plastics taking over our oceans is no joke, but Notpla is helping to alleviate this mess with their edible water “bottles,” edible juices, edible cocktails, edible shots, and edible sauce packets, all thanks to brilliant minds, science, and seaweed.

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://campaignsoftheworld.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/Notpla.jpeg" alt="Notpla" width="2000" height="1300" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-19955" title="Notpla: Packaging that disappears.
Edible and biodegradable. The alternative to plastic.

Ooho is a flexible packaging for beverages and sauces. It’s made from Notpla, our material combining seaweed and plants. Ooho biodegrades in 4-6 weeks, or you can just eat it, making it ideal for on the go consumption.

Plastics amount to 80% of all the garbage dumped into the world’s oceans, and has a horrifying impact on the ocean life.

IKEA will develop a series of toys depicting sea animals that are visibly transformed due to plastic. By bringing attention to this problem, we advocate minimising plastic use to our customers.

In December 2019, a sperm whale got stranded on a beach in the Outer Hebrides. It was found dead, with a 100kg litter ball in its stomach.
