More importantly, how did a mere name gain traction of the size that most marketing campaigns aspire for? Well, like most online trends, the origin of Binod is not rooted in some iron-clad logic. Instead, it was born out of a seemingly everyday phenomenon in the world of YouTube. More precisely, the Channel Slayy Point released a video in which they threw some shade on the meaningless comments that their videos get. One of the comments was made by someone named Binod Tharu. Guess what the comment said? Well, “Binod”! From that point forward, the name spread all over the internet like wildfire. In fact, its spread still hasn’t been contained. Social media are abuzz with conversations about SBI Life’s Friendship Day message on Twitter, which struck the right chord with peers in the insurance sector in India. Designed and executed by WATConsult, the campaign’s Twitter conversations with its competitors are winning hearts on the internet. 

India’s insurance industry is pegged to reach the US $ 280 billion by 2020. As many as 24 life insurers are actively working to push insurance penetration in the country, which continues to be abysmal. The mere 3.69% life insurance penetration, also presents a growth opportunity for players in the Indian insurance space, where insurance companies, regulators and the government have been deploying various strategies to make insurance accessible to larger sections of society. 

Acknowledging the industry’s common dream of a well-protected and insured India, SBI Life Insurance sent friendship day messages on Twitter in a unique and fascinating style, to life insurers across the country, triggering a chain of positive conversations from its peers in the insurance space and other social media users.
