Project #ShowUs by Dove redefining how women are represented and setting a new…

Project #ShowUs by Dove redefining how women are represented and setting a new standard for the authentic and diverse representation of women across the world.

Dove is partnering with women & non-binary individuals everywhere to create Project #ShowUs, a collection of 10,000+ images that offer a more inclusive vision of beauty for all media & advertisers to use.

In partnership with the largest international stock photo distributor, Getty Images, and Girlgaze – a collective of female-identifying and non-binary photographers – Dove is building the world’s largest stock photo library of its kind. The move builds on its commitment to share a more inclusive vision of beauty.

A year in the making, the collection – currently 5,000 images strong and continually growing – is created exclusively by women, female-identifying and non-binary individuals and is available now for the media and advertising industries to view, license and use.

“What’s so important about this particular campaign is that we’ve been able to highlight and photograph women and girls all over the world who don’t generally get seen,” says Amanda de Cadenet, founder and CEO, Girlgaze.

“As image professionals, we have the responsibility to reflect society authentically and to help trigger social change,” adds Dr Rebecca Swift, Director of Creative Insights at Getty Images.

70% of women taking part in a recent global Dove study told us they still don’t feel represented in the images they see every day. Images in ads and the media still impose unrealistic standards and limiting stereotypes which present a narrow view of who women are, what they should look like and what they can achieve. It affects their lives, health, relationships and the opportunities they are given. We wanted to drive deep systemic change.

What makes Project #ShowUs unique?

For the first time on Getty Images, every one of the 179 people photographed for the collection has personally defined their search descriptions and tags for their pictures. This allows them to express their beauty in their way, on their terms, ensuring they feel realistically represented. This project is 100% powered by women, depicted as they are in real life, with absolutely no digital distortion.

Be part of the change. Visit www.gettyimages.com/ShowUs to look through the library and encourage any agencies you work with to use imagery from the collection.

The Unstereotype Alliance launches a call to action to the advertising industry sending…

The Unstereotype Alliance launches a call to action to the advertising industry sending a clear message about the perils of stereotyping. Built around the notion that “the problem is not seeing the problem” the film calls on the industry to take a deeper look to recognize the problem of stereotypes, as a first step to eliminating them. The short film is produced by IPG and MullenLowe.

UN Women Executive Director and Convener of the Unstereotype Alliance, Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, said, “We know that where there is inequality, discrimination and exclusion follow. Confronting the negative stereotypes in our societies is a vital step to fighting inequalities. The Unstereotype Alliance is unique in its ability to convene diverse companies for a joint cause: using the power of advertising to affect positive cultural change and improve the lives of women and girls around the world.”

Additionally, the group released a power short film, “The Problem is not Seeing the Problem,” that calls on the industry to act immediately to eliminate stereotypes from their ads.

An interactive online documentary video experience that tells the overlooked story of slavery in the Colonial North.

People Not Property: Stories of Slavery in the Colonial North is a compelling, interactive documentary experience that leverages unique web design and technical characteristics to tell the overlooked story of enslaved individuals in the colonial North. Responsive design and UX reveal the neglected narrative in a fact-based yet heartfelt way, delivering a personalized account of the past that connects with issues of race present in America today. The content-rich educational resource is designed to drive engagement through prompted questions and encouragement of critical thinking.

Website architecture enables users of all ages to engage at different levels, while the color palette and aesthetics convey the serious nature of the content through dark tones. The interactive elements of the website are uniquely suited to the type and quantity of content available on a given topic e.g. facts and figures are depicted in easy-to-understand infographic animations. Including support from scholars, historic site interpreters, artists, and filmmakers, the heart of People Not Property is numerous original short-form films covering dozens of important subject areas.

C&G Partners had the rare opportunity to bring this story to life by filming reenactment videos of the documented activities of enslaved individuals in the colonial North that included scholarly interpretation and testimonials to provide commentary and context.

Virtual assistants are increasingly present in people’s lives, helping clear doubts and making…

Virtual assistants are increasingly present in people’s lives, helping clear doubts and making everyday life easier. What they all have in common is a standard female voice and a woman’s name, such as Lu, Siri, Alexa, Nat, Bia, etc. According to a study released in May 2019 by UNESCO called ‘I’d Blush If I Could,’ virtual AI assistants have been suffering verbal harassment of a sexual nature, to which they usually respond with tolerant, subservient and passive remarks. The ‘#HeyUpdateMyVoice’ movement, in partnership with UNESCO, was born out of this context with the goal of teaching respect towards virtual assistants and, in addition, asking tech companies to update their assistants’ responses. Because if that happens to them, imagine what happens in real life to real women. The movement and campaign were created and developed by SunsetDDB in Brazilan agency part of DDB Latina

#HeyUpdateMyVoice website

The movement

“In order to contribute to better education of current and future generations, the movement “Hey, Update My Voice” was created.
A non-branded movement for every brand: women’s rights institutions and company using virtual assistants.

Our goal is to ask the leading Silicon Valley companies to update the responses of their virtual assistants. So that they are no longer subservient and passive, and that they have an active voice and give serious and educational responses when they suffer any kind of harassment.”
