The 54-Second Watch campaign by Fondation Emergence. Every second, thousands of victims worldwide…

The 54-Second Watch campaign by Fondation Emergence. Every second, thousands of victims worldwide are claimed by homophobia and transphobia. Due to intolerance, the life span of LGBTQ+ persons is reduced.

Fondation Emergence created a symbolic object, a 54-second watch, to highlight this injustice. 6 seconds less for every colour of the LGBTQ+ flag. The watch was created as part of an awareness campaign for May 17th, the International Day against homophobia and transphobia. For more, visit: http://www.54-secondwatch.com

May 17th is not yet officially recognized by the UN; thus we’re launching a petition to make it happen. In addition to wearing the watch, you can show your support by signing the petition: https://chng.it/rSfX7hqJ4k

The 54-second watch is an initiative of the Fondation Émergence, a non-profit organization fighting against homophobia and transphobia. For more, visit: https://www.fondationemergence.org/

In 2019, the American Medical Association classified violence against transgender people in the…

In 2019, the American Medical Association classified violence against transgender people in the U.S. as an epidemic. According to the Human Rights Campaign, as of July 2020, at least 26 transgender people have been killed, already surpassing the total from last year. The majority of these victims are Black trans women. Many deaths also go unreported, and victims are often misgendered.

Google Trends data reveals the extent to which America is searching to understand this crisis; “transphobia” and “black trans people killed” are both being searched at an all-time high.

America is also searching for ways to support transgender people. More than ever, people are searching for “Black trans organizations,” “trans activists,” and “how to be a good ally.” And in 2020, “Black Trans Lives Matter” was searched 10X more than the previous year.
Google is a committed supporter of The Marsha P. Johnson Institute (MPJI) and its mission to end violence against all trans people across the U.S. In addition to defending and protecting Black trans people’s lives, MPJI is also expanding its COVID-19 relief efforts for trans communities. As part of our ongoing commitments to advance racial justice, Google.org recently donated to MPJI, which will expand the organization’s relief work.

IKEA Be Someone’s Home On IDAHOT 17 May, the International Day Against Homophobia,…

IKEA Be Someone’s Home

On IDAHOT 17 May, the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia & Biphobia, we’re calling on our customers and co-workers to make LGBT+ people feel at home everywhere, every day.

For many of us, a forced quarantine during 2020 has taught us how important our home is – a place where we can feel safe, where we can love and feel loved. But some risk being stigmatised, isolated and discriminated against in their living spaces. For the LGBT+ community, their four walls are not always what makes them feel at home and welcomed.

With the Be Someone’s Home campaign 2020, we want to recognise this reality and invite co-workers and customers to be a shelter for those who are discriminated against and struggle to find safety. We can be a safe space for our LGBT+ friends and colleagues; we can be their home.

Everyone should have the right to be themselves. Stand up against discrimination of LGBT+ persons on 17 May, and every day #BeSomeonesHome #IDAHOT.

The One Club for Creativity recognised FCB India with GOLD for their campaign…

The One Club for Creativity recognised FCB India with GOLD for their campaign ‘Times Out & Proud’ for The Times Of India as the regional winner for APAC, at the 8th annual One Screen Short Film Festival in New York last night!

The “Times Out & Proud” film gives the hope of an inclusive society. This film aims to empower the members of the LGBTQ community to live a dignified life with acceptance and pride. On 17 May 1990, the General Assembly of the World Health Organization (WHO) removed homosexuality from their list of mental disorders. This decision by the WHO constitutes a historic date and powerful symbol for members of the LGBTQ community. With this film, we aim to carve out a mainstream space for members of the community who identify as LGBTQ to interact, share and collaborate with the entire Indian population.

On winning the only GOLD in APAC, Swati Bhattacharya, CCO, FCB Ulka said, “This is our first gold at One Show! It’s very special for each one of us! Times of India doesn’t just chronicle change, it also helps open new windows for all of us as citizens. When we get to speak for the brand, we all know that it’s an opportunity to do something brave and beautiful!”

Adding Jason Samuel, Creative Supervisor, FCB Ulka said, “Love always prevails. Such a joy to see our labour of love recognised at the world stage. A glorious win for the community. Towards a more progressive and tolerant India!”

One Screen is part of The One Club for Creativity, the global non-profit organisation celebrating creative excellence in advertising and design.

The year is 2019, and we live in a society that celebrates an…

The year is 2019, and we live in a society that celebrates an entire month in the name of the pride of the LGBT community. However, transphobia and homophobia are two phenomenons that have refused to vanish with time. The internet is the most prominent place for the circulation of hatred against the LGBT community. Cyber-homophobia and cyber-transphobia can be easily spotted in the comments sections of major social media platforms. In the light of such discriminatory occurrences, a non-profit organization called Fondation Emergence came up with a campaign called Brutal Postings.

The campaign started with the posting of 74 hateful remarks found online onto a wall in Downtown Montreal. Contrary to the expectations of the creators of the campaign, the public expressed their discourse towards the transphobic wall within 20 minutes. The creative agency responsible for the creation of the campaign expected the final outcome to manifest itself in about a day. However, people from different walks of life called the police in less than half an hour and curbed the brutal postings. The campaign died with the message that if transphobic and homophobic remarks cannot be put up on public walls, why can’t the same treatment be extended to the internet?

We feel that Rethink Canada made judicious use of their creative horsepower by executing a social experiment instead of a typical campaign. The swift achievement of the campaign’s agenda speaks for itself.

The life expectancy of transgender people in Brazil is age 35 due to…

The life expectancy of transgender people in Brazil is age 35 due to violence and discrimination. This fact is highlighted in the new film #NoLoveShouldDieYoung | Thirty-Five developed by Y&R Brazil (part of VMLY&R Group) for Athosgls, an LGBT news portal. The short film, produced by FAUNA studio, features real trans couple Guto and Onika. This statistic is underscored by the film’s soundtrack, a cover of Alphaville’s 80’s hit song ‘Forever Young’ by Brazilian vocalist Liniker (a black trans woman). Coincidently, this year marks the 35th anniversary of the song’s release.

To reflect the life of trans people and the dangers they live with each day, the production team included trans screenwriter Luh Maza, and researcher Uni Corrêa, who worked with Maza to develop the film’s plot.

The film will be shown at various events for International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia (May 17) and at events during LGBT Pride month.
