The New York Times – The Truth is Worth It | A Reporter’s Honest Portrayal of Journalism That Matters
The New York Times released ads under The Truth is Worth It series, which also happens to fall under the umbrella of the American newspaper’s ‘The Truth is Hard’ campaign. One among the ads of the series has been titled ‘Perseverance’, and takes viewers through a reporter’s arduous research process. The campaign makes use of recorded phone calls, drafted headlines, and notes that play throughout the length of the video advertisement in the form of additional details to finely edited segments.
The creative agency responsible for the creation is yet another New York-based body called Droga5 NY. The video talks about the separation of children from their parents at the US borders. In order to establish journalistic authority on the story presented by the New York Times, Caitlin Dickerson (the reporter covering the separation of children happening at the borders) followed a determined approach to uncover the truth.
During the final moments of the campaign, the viewers are told that the truth doesn’t report itself. We feel that the illustrative campaign takes a bold stance on a pivotal political event that has the potential to turn into a humanitarian crisis. Furthermore, the campaign excels at providing the viewers with a behind-the-scenes glimpse of how reporters from the New York Times work in real-time.
