Unaids: the mirror - international day for transgender visibility

UNAIDS presents The Mirror, a campaign on International Day for Transgender Visibility to break down gender diversity taboos among children and raise awareness about their rights. All children deserve an equal opportunity to grow up in a safe and loving environment. Statistics show that transgender teenagers are much more likely to attempt suicide than teenagers whose identities match what is written on their birth certificates. In addition, transgender people face discrimination and, in certain countries, can be arrested. And transgender women have some of the highest rates of HIV, up to 40% in some cases. The film portrays a shy young boy smiling while wearing a woman’s scarf as he sees his reflection in a mirror. The movie captures the pivotal moment of self-recognition.
