These articles will recount the stories of their career journey, the ethos of their unique craft, and how their backgrounds and experiences inspire their art.

KNGF Geleidehonden, the Royal Dutch Guide Dog Foundation, is mainly known for helping visually-impaired people. But there are people with other disabilities whose lives can benefit from a professionally-trained dog, which is why the new brand strategy was developed: ‘KNGF opens worlds’.

This led to a new campaign, including a series of films showing the positive impact of a guide dog on the lives of people with a physical disability or specific conditions, such as PTSS.

In the first film, we open the world of Rose, who uses a wheelchair. The story shows how dynamics between a husband and wife can change when one has to deal with a disability. And how an assistance dog can be of help.

The films are animated stories. A carefully-considered choice is designed to get the viewer as engaged as possible with the main character’s world. A world that’s different from most people’s daily reality. The film is part of a series that will be released in early 2021.

Jakko Achterberg, Creative Partner Selmore: “Over the upcoming period, we will continue to open new worlds together with KNGF Geleidehonden. By using animation, we make those worlds visible and tangible.”

The films are being created in collaboration with 3D-animation studio Colorbleed. Tom Hankins, owner/art director, Colorbleed: “It was important for us to emphasize the human aspect in the films. We managed to do so by focussing on the natural mimics in character animation and the sympathy in the faces. This, along with the hand-crafted style and guiding vocal music, ensure the films have a big impact on the viewer.”

SoundCircus was in charge of sound, while Dutch band HAEVN provided the music, writing the song `Finding Our Way’ especially for this first film.

World’s First Animated COVID Mask – in aid of Great Ormond Street Hospital. Top animation directors unite for a unique project to raise money for a children’s charity.

Yannis Konstantinidis, the Creative Director and founder of NOMINT created the world’s first animated face mask to support the world-renowned London-based Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity. The ‘animated’ mask is a beautiful stop-motion animation of 400 unique cloth masks, animated together to create a parade of colorful moving images. Masks can be purchased and additional donations to the charity can be made on the projects Indiegogo campaign here.

Yannis partnered with animation studios, animators, and directors, including Giant Ant, Ori Toor, Henrique Barone, Clim Studio, and Rafael Varona, who donated their time and talents to the cause. Pairing his directorial talent with their expertise, he endeavored to transform the mask–now a commonplace and lifesaving accessory in our society–into a beautiful, optimistic, and hopeful canvas of creative expression.

All animators and directors delivered the animations that would make the 400+ frames for the stop-motion piece to Yannis, one for each mask, who adapted the 2D animations to the unique mask layout. He considered myriad potential mask materials, printing processes, assembly, and more to craft the most durable, colorful, and usable mask for this artistic experiment. He prioritized vibrant, whimsical animation sequences, aiming for pieces that would instill hope and positivity. After reformatting the animations and printing on masks, they were next assembled using a denim outer layer and cotton inner lining before being filmed in sequence to bring the illustrations to animated life.

“Animation at its core has always been about taking something inanimate and mundane and bringing it to life, with a new sense of magic and excitement,” notes Yannis. “Reframing a face mask as a fresh canvas allows for artistry that may open people’s eyes to the endless possibilities around us.”

Breast Cancer Now: Our relationship with our breasts isn’t always straightforward.
For many of us, it’s a journey of discovery. From that moment we notice they’re there to that moment someone else notices too.

From that first bra to that first wrinkle or stretch mark. From those moments of pleasure to those moments of pain. And every emotion and experience in between.

Whatever relationship you have with your breasts. It’s important you check them regularly for signs of breast cancer.

Weber Shandwick and Anna Ginsburg have developed a new animation, ‘Love Hate Relationship’, to convey the different journeys, and accompanying emotions, women go on with their breasts; from pride and embarrassment as their breasts develop, to their breasts attracting attention from others, to breastfeeding and attending mammogram appointments.

Tata Motors, India’s leading auto brand in association with WATConsult, the globally awarded…

Tata Motors, India’s leading auto brand in association with WATConsult, the globally awarded hybrid digital agency from the house of Dentsu Aegis Network (DAN) India, today announced the launch of ‘Atmanirbharta by Tata Motors’ – a digital campaign highlighting the existence of localisation in everything that we do. Designed and conceptualised by WATConsult, this campaign has been released ahead of the glorious occasion of India’s 74th Independence Day and emphasises on the meaning of ‘Atmanirbharta’ or self-reliance for individuals and the nation as a whole.

Solidifying the brand’s stance for the ‘Vocal for Local’ initiative, the campaign is headlined by a video, which begins with a very young boy named Rohan shown seated in the rear seat of a Tata Nexon, while his father is driving him across the town. The son inquisitively asks his father, “Atmanirbharta kya hoti hai?” i.e. “What does Atmanirbharta mean?”. By showing a range of occupations to his son, the father makes him understand that Atmanirbharta means being self-reliant in all aspects of life and that it applies to people from all walks of life – be it a toymaker, bangle vendor, scientist or an engineer from ISRO, who sequentially appear in the film. The video ends with the display of Tata Motors’ New Forever range near a hoisted Indian flag, exemplifying the Company’s ability to deliver best in class products that cater to the local needs & tastes while evolving with time and being ever popular with customers.

Adding to the above, ‘Atmanirbharta by Tata Motors’ highlights that reaching the goal of being self-reliant is not an individualistic responsibility, but a collective one that falls on the shoulders of the entire country.

Commenting on the launch of this campaign, Vivek Srivatsa, Head Marketing, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicle Business Unit said, “Tata Motors has always been known as an automotive brand that is a flag bearer for products that caters to the Indian customer. Our cars are manufactured locally and provide world-class Design, Safety and Driving pleasure to all. We are proud to be at the forefront of the conversation of being ‘Vocal for Local’. This campaign is our tribute to all the people and the homegrown businesses in India who make our country what it is. I am glad that both Tata Motors and WATConsult took this opportunity to emphasise on this message, and thereby in our small way, we want to encourage the nation to understand a few aspects of being ‘Atmanirbhar’. Through the ‘Atmanirbharta by Tata Motors’ campaign, we want to steer the relevant conversation around the subject by sharing our perspective, while encouraging our customers and the country to work towards this overarching goal.”

Talking about the campaign, Heeru Dingra, CEO, WATConsult added, “We are happy to have extended our relations with Tata Motors to curate a concept on a topic that is so relevant in today’s time. The idea was to promote and appreciate the concept of ‘Atmanirbharta’, which is becoming a necessary trait and a motto for our nation. While the animation makes the video more endearing, the narrative seamlessly portrays the potential that India drives, in terms of talent, power and various other aspects, in today’s age. With this video, we are confident that we will be able to help each one of us understand the importance of being self-dependent along with respecting all the workers from different strata of life who are in their way making our nation self-reliant.”

Yes We Cannes!

Dutch music agency Sizzer and German animation studio Sehsucht didn’t give in to the cancellation of Cannes Lions but interviewed 60 (!) people via Zoom, created an awesome music video and organized the virtual release party last week instead. The theme: that what binds us all, love. ‘It was so great to catch up with everyone!’

WildAid Japan and non-profit organisation, Tears of the African Elephant, have teamed up…

WildAid Japan and non-profit organisation, Tears of the African Elephant, have teamed up with Grey Tokyo to launch an anti-ivory campaign, by creatively using Japanese stamp seals known as hankograph.

A part of Japanese culture, personal stamp seals, known as ‘hanko’ are used as official signatures on formal documents such as contracts and marriage registration. They can be made of ivory, wood, stone or titanium & carbon shaft. Unfortunately, eighty-percent of Japan’s ivory consumption is utilised for hanko, as people choose it without fully understanding or having complete knowledge of the global elephant crisis.

Grey Tokyo and Koji Yamamura, an academy award-nominated animation artist, created the campaign by meticulously using 500 wooden stamps and 2400 frames of refined craftsmanship to produce the two-minute film which creatively promotes the anti-ivory initiative to put an end to ivory trade and consumption in Japan.

Hankograph – the unprecedented animation made entirely of Hankos | WILDAID #hankograph

Making of Hankograph – Anti-ivory campaign

After the US and China announced its ban on domestic ivory trade in 2016, and with China closing the trade in 2018, Japan has now become one of the largest ivory markets in the world. The UK, France, the Netherlands have followed too and Singapore, Hong Kong and Taiwan, all former major ivory markets, are currently also preparing for closure following their announcement to close the ivory trade.

In time with Earth Day (Protect our Species), the film animation was released online as well as featured in newspapers and on prominently placed billboards (e.g. Tokyo’s main railway station -Ueno station). With the support of celebrities such as Jackie Chan, Christel Takigawa and Ayako Kisa, this campaign aims to spread the idea that Japan needs to move forward and join the rest of the world in becoming ivory free. WildAid Japan and Tears of the African Elephant are putting in every effort in hope for Japan to announce this before the Tokyo Olympics 2020.

“As the last major legal market, we hope that Japan can join the global community in ending legal sales of ivory as soon as possible. After thousands of years of ivory trade decimating elephant populations, it would be a historic moment winning the nation great acclaim globally.” – Peter Knights, CEO and founder of WildAid

“Hanko can be replaced by several other materials. Since most of the ivory in Japan is used for hanko, if people start making hanko from other materials, it would be a big step forward to changing the situation in Japan.” – Airi Yamawaki, Director of WildAid Japan and founder of Tears of the African Elephant.

“The deep underlying issue is that the majority of Japanese people are unaware that Japan is a high ivory consumption country. And that African elephants are an endangered species. Hanko stamps are an essential item for Japanese people because it represents your signature and carries your name. More so a reason we want people to think, consider and choose a sustainable material for making a hanko stamp. With Hankograph art, created from 500 wooden hanko stamps, we sincerely hope that our message gets across to as many people of Japan and becomes a trigger for change.” – Masanori Tagaya, Group Creative Director, Grey Tokyo

The campaign also calls upon the public to share the animation and to take action by joining a petition to support the closure of the domestic ivory trade – www.noivory.jp

Burger King is notoriously known for their marketing stunts against its arch-rival McDonald’s.…

Burger King is notoriously known for their marketing stunts against its arch-rival McDonald’s. And this time it has decided to steal the patrons of McDonald’s by having them swerve towards their own outlets through Whopper Detour campaign. FCB New York is the agency behind this marketing stunt.

Burger King literally made potential customers (basically McDonald’s patrons) to download its app or use it if they were one of the millions who already had it on their phones through an irresistible offer of a one-cent Whopper. The twist? People had to order from the app when inside or close to McDonald’s outlet (within the range of 600 feet of any McDonald’s outlet). The app then directed folks to the nearest BK outlet where they can do and have their one-cent Whopper.

Well, we think it was pretty clever and bold considering these facts about McDonald’s presence in the USA – Close to 75% population resides within three-four miles of a McDonald’s outlet. Also, U.S. had 14,000+ McDonald’s outlets and around 7,200 Burger King outlets in 2017. So, to divert the attention of a large part of a population that loves burgers from MacDonald’s to Burger King is a job well done. Burger King is truly the king of guerrilla marketing stunts!

Life is a complex affair, but despite its very nature, all of us…

Life is a complex affair, but despite its very nature, all of us get only a single shot at it. A short film called Coin Operated expresses the same idea by beautifully encapsulating the brevity of life. It takes the viewers through the story of a naive space enthusiast who spends 70 years of his life being fixated on the dream of travelling to outer space. Our first introduction to the protagonist comes in the realm of his imagination. While playing with his miniature rocket ship during a stroll with his mother, the boy imagines being among the vastness of the sky and exploring it in a high-octane sequence. However, things become clearer when the viewers are introduced to reality, and to a helmet-faced kid pacing around his adult companion. Tiny additions to the character’s 3-D animated model thicken the plot even more. For example, a small badge on the boy’s t-shirt that says “Space” in addition to his white-colored helmet makes us aware of his fascination with the world beyond our planet. The story develops further when the boy comes across a coin-operated space ship situated outside a store. Little does the boy know that what he thinks of as a real spaceship is, in fact, a variation of the mechanical bull. Being unable to ride it more than once (given his cumulative wealth of a single coin), the boy thinks of opening a lemonade stall after a brief spell of dejection.

Thereon, he spends a considerable chunk of his life collecting enough money to make his trip to space. A fast-forward sequence depicts how the boy ages over the years. His consistent position at the lemonade stand makes it clear that his fixation with his childhood dream has remained untethered. In the final act of the film, the boy amasses enough wealth to finance his trip to space. Therefore, he finally makes his way to the place where everything started. After depositing his entire fortune into the coin-collection cabinet of the first spaceship he ever came across, the boy patiently waits for his departure. However, his adventure takes time to kick off, but as a sudden stir forces a stuck coin to pass through the collection system, the boy-turned-old-man lives his dream of flying to space!

PETA is back with an earth-shattering social experiment by way of a virtual…

PETA is back with an earth-shattering social experiment by way of a virtual reality project named, PETA Eye to Eye. In our opinion, it is breaking new grounds when it comes to using virtual reality in an unprecedentedly emotional manner to drive the message home; leaving humans speechless and with a residue of a guilty conscience. The animal rights organization created this campaign in partnership with the creative agency Kolle Rebbe and digital agency Demodern.

How would you react when an animal you adore (in this case, it’s a rabbit) starts talking to you? You will love it, of course. But what happens when the animal tells you how he and his mates (other creatures from the animal clan) are treated in slaughterhouses? Or shows you around the lab that is smeared with blood marks? What happens when you hear the animal weep or gasp in horror before being cut or lynched in the name of animal testing? What happens when it asks you why you eat them or lock them up or turn them into objects of clothing?

We feel that this PETA campaign makes you look into the eye of the animal as it talks to you eye to eye about the various unbearable kinds of trauma and hostility it must endure. Truly an eye-opener!

Apple’s Share your gifts campaign celebrates the spirit of creative geniuses in each…

Apple’s Share your gifts campaign celebrates the spirit of creative geniuses in each one of us and urges all to bring that creative side out for the world to see! We think that this animated version is in itself a beautiful ode to the inner potential within each of us. It tells the story of a young skilled woman (and everyone is skilled in one thing or the other, you just need to find out!) who shies away from showcasing her creativity until she can’t.

The song is equally beautiful, and it’s written by Billie Eilish, a 16-year-old singer and songwriter who tapped into relative notes and words to come up with this original background song that plays along in the video. It’s called Come Out and Play. Just for your information, here’s a little of who Billie Eilish is. She began writing original lyrics and creating her own musical notes from the age of 11. She gave her first popular hit when she was 15. Apple launched this Share your gifts film in collaboration with Billie’s exclusive recital and one of its brilliant illustrators at Apple’s Third Street Promenade store situated in Santa Monica, California.

We believe that by not really revealing the girl’s creative genius and by keeping it a mystery, it urges everyone to tap into their hidden creative sides to realize their true self and potential.

Glory only happens when you sweat for your dreams. Gatorade presents Heart of…

Glory only happens when you sweat for your dreams. Gatorade presents Heart of a Lio, an animated short film about Lionel Messi. #HeartOfALio

Gizmo, the Argentinian animation studio founded 14 years ago by Andrea Bacigalupo and Emmanuel Verruno, had the challenge of making “Heart of a Lio”, an inspiring story about pursuing your dreams. It is a 4 minute animated short film with Lionel Messi as the main character. The script was created by the agency TBWA\Chiat\Day LA for the Global Gatorade Soccer 2018 campaign.

This project was carried out under Ema Verruno´s, Flamboyant Paradise’s ( Directors duo Javier Lourenço and Antoine Quairiat) and Nico Presas’ direction. The production was made from its Gizmo’s headquarters in Buenos Aires and the team was composed by more than 80 talented artists.

Gatorade – Heart of a Lio – Behind-the-scenes

For this animated short film starring by Lionel Messi, the team worked an original aesthetic in which the design of stylized characters treated almost as sculptures with environments, textures and hyper realistic materials was combined. Beyond the stylization of these designs, cameras and photography have a more realistic cinematic search.

“To achieve this animation work, we have studied Messi in all its ages, both in its sport movements and its facial expressions – happy and euphoric moments, as well as moments of frustration and anger – to arrive at a natural and credible result” commented Ema Verruno.

“Regarding the story, we have sought more surreal resources for certain key moments in its history, either to highlight his feelings or to tell certain moments of his life in a more original way,” concluded Javier Lourenço.

“The film has a very cinematic treatment, just as it works in the great American and European animation studios,” commented Antoine Quairiat.

“We want to highlight the joint work we did with the agency in Los Angeles, creator of the script, especially with the global creative directors of Gatorade, Ariel Abramovici and Bruno Acanfora, who entrusted us with the project.” said Javier Lourenço.

“Without a doubt the great challenge was to achieve a fluid thread through the different sequences for a piece of almost 4 minutes”, concludes Nico Presas.

“We are more than satisfied with how we managed to tell this story that includes sequences of action, drama, comedy and epic”, highlights Andrea Bacigalupo.

“The life of Messi is an epic story of overcoming, from his soccer beginnings in Rosario, through his health problems, to his achievements and sporting successes that transformed him into the greatest star of world football. That road of ups and downs is what we have tried to capture in the aesthetic variety of each sequence of the piece” Concludes Ema Verruno.

With this new release, once again, Gizmo demonstrates why it has taken place in the global market of Animation studios, in the advertising market and in the production of Cinematics for the Gaming market.

This tremendous ad campaign (Honda Dream Makers) is a beautiful homage to the premium automotive brand Honda. The use of technology in making this video is exceptional. The graphics used are very high resolution and look great. The use of high-tech computer systems is intrinsic to this promotional video.

The video sheds light on the brand’s latest products and shows their technological advancement. The video displays cars like the all new Civic Sedan, Civic Type-R – which is an all new sporty hatchback cum coupe and the Legendary SUV CR-V. The ad campaign also underscores the brand’s motorcycles which are known for their reliability quotient.

This 90-second film, created as part of Honda’s partnership with Britain’s Channel 4, takes viewers through each stage of the filmmaking process, including storyboarding, illustration, filming and animation.

The use of background sounds in the video is very catchy and captures the attention of the audiences immediately, exactly what is expected of an ad campaign.

Honda wonderfully appreciates all the sincere efforts shown by Wieden+Kennedy London in making this promotional video cum ad-campaign that is a force to be reckoned with. What better way to thank/acknowledge a long-term association than showcasing all that is HONDA in its magnificent glory!
